BASE WELDS
For any gouge that goes down to the fiberglass or core layers, p-tex isn't going to cut it. For most medium to large gouges, a base weld is the way to go. They are cost effective, durable, require less grinding than a patch, and they bond well to the original layers of the board. All base welds are either black or clear. Admittedly, base welds are not that exciting, and even though I have done thousands of welds, I don't have any before and after photos at the moment. I will add some more examples here later.
Here is a super easy base weld job done with clear weld material. First, the area is cleaned and roughed up for texture. Next, a molten hot weld is added and pressed into the area. This board needed some additional p-tex in a few spots. After the welds cool, the excess weld material is scraped off and the board is full tuned.
